I started my buggy build about 2 weeks ago, so I thought I would post some progress pics up. It started with a jeep wrangler YJ frame.

Very nice. do you have any photos or drawing of what this will look like when you are done? Photos are hard to tell sometimes, but is that long enough to be a 4 seater?

I'd like to hear some specs, what drivetrain you going to run? How wide will the chassis be? Keep updating us, I love seeing a build come together.

Bout time you shows us some pics! That's a nice lookin shop you got there too, complete with a mouser. Looks very warm compared to mine right now!
What do you have planned for specs and hardware? Did you pick up a set of 49" Iroks or a set of the new 50 something boggers? (54?)
Keep posting pics when you can. ;)

So far so good on the build, I plan to be able to run a bench in the back somewhere around 36 inches wide. But It will be easily removable;) Or will flop backwards like a van seat with a ton of storage for tools, parts etc underneath.

Specs will be some type of chev v8, either a simple tbi 350, or a 6.0 v8, whcih aren't that expensive somewhere around a 1000, but the electronics on that one worry me.

I want to keep it simple, hp dana 60 front, I have a dana 70U rear already, turbo 400 trans, atlas hopefully. dual triangulated 4 link rear, I hope the same in the front.

Wheel base around 108 inches. The chassis/body is 55.5 at the widest part. I know it's not like competition skinny, but I hate being cramped. Still skinnier then a wrangler though. I will post pics as I make some decent progress, it took me about 2 week of after work several days a week and about one day a weekend to get this far, but the hardest is behind me:greg:

x2! :D
And will this be ready for Moab in Feb?

No not in febuary wayne. I'm wheelin the samurai as I do it, which is the cool part. Oh and no precision drawings, you never really take into effect what building a buggy from scratch actually takes in the way of measurments and how much space/room is needed. Its a hassle, but will be worth it.

Looks like a great start! You have access to some nice tools.

The bender and notcher are mine, but my buddy owns a shop and in exchange for using and leaving them there, I get to build in a nice heated shop out of the snow. :D He is building one also, I'll post some pics of his later

What you're looking for is an L33 5.3 -> trust me! 9.9:1 compression 310hp 335lb'tq balanced up to 7700rpm from the factory and very common in 2002 and 2003 chevy 1/2 tons water pump to flywheel they're ~330 lbs. It was the test motor for the LS6(GTO) motor before it came out - all aluminum block with iron sleeves and aluminum heads. The only bad thing I've found so far is it has really bad piston slap when it's cold (which is normal for the 5.3 but made worse by the shape of the piston in the L33)

When you're shopping for that, you can specify "recycled" UHMW rather than all-new. It's approximately 1/2 the cost, but it's only available in black. (you can get other colors in the all-new if you want that) The only downside of the recycled stuff is that it has little specks of other colors mixed in, which is not really visible at all once it's installed.

Makes a big difference though, when one is around $400 per 4x8 sheet and the other is closer to $200.
