That's all that needs to happen for her opinion of offroaders in general to go right in the toilet. I just don't see this tactic having any positive outcome other then an f-u and speeding away. If someone pulled up near me and made those kind of comments about my U4 sticker on my honda(yes there is one on my honda) I'd probably tell them to f-off. There is room for discussion on wilderness and SUWA, but it's where folks are willing participants. Just my $.02 flame away.

I can see how to some it might seem bad to ask someone a question. But, if what Jason said is how it happened, I really don't see how it could be taken out of context. People are so closed minded and not willing to listen to anyone else but themselves these days. No one wants to deal with anyone that they don't know anymore. Brotherly love is gone and people are more and more hiding from the rest of the world.

I agree, IMO if for example someone or a group pulled alongside me and asked if I new what my U4 sticker meant I would proudly say sure do my guess is it wouldn't go any further than that, no F bombs,no fingers end of story.

Whatever happened to defensive less dialog seem like some peoples skin just keeps getting thinner.

Interesting Thread. A while back I saw a Subaru pull into a parking lot with a wild utah sticker and I asked them the same question. They said the sticker was on the vehicle when they bought it. So I told them about the group behind it and the Wilderness movement. They vowed to remove it when they got home. They were shocked. they just thought it meant enjoying and protecting wide open spaces not restricting access to it.

ACCESS DOES NOT EQUAL DAMAGE. I cant beleive I am reading that on here. Damage means destruction of something. At what level do you draw the line on "destruction of something" at a macro level, micro level? ACCESS EQUALS IMPACT. What is acceptable impact? Thats a debate for another thread.

Lastly I wanted to produce a sticker that said "Protect & Ride Utah" and slap it over the "wild utah stickers. But then I thought we better not.

I'm stoked that the U4 sticker gets so much respect from you. Keep in mind if that sticker is on your rig people will watch you, and take note of your actions. If you flip the bird, and drop an 'F U' to someone asking about the sticker, then shame on you for sucking at knowing what the U4 stands for.

We've all seen these stickers, on just about any vehicle imaginable cruising around town.

I was driving home from work yesterday when i pulled up behind a Honda Accord with a slighty torn PWU sticker on the back window. I positioned myself next to said Honda, and out of nowhere i turned down my music, got the attention of the driver, and asked, "Protect Wild Utah, do you know what the means?"
Driver: "What?"
Me: "Your sticker, do you know what it means?"
Driver: "Do you?"
Me: "Do YOU know what it means?"
Driver: "Are you really getting into a political debate at a red light?"
Me: <PAUSE TO THINK> "Yeah... I am. So what does it mean?"
Driver: "F*^$ you@"

I know exactly what U4 stands for don't ever question me on that. I attend meetings, I donate time and money to the cause, I volunteer in many ways. I was using it as an example. Be honest here, you wanted to ruffle their feathers, and you got what you wanted out of them.

Sure the red light is short, I asked as nicely as i could, she got mad... not my intentions. Am i proud? i dunno really. I'm certainly not ashamed of it. But, i will ask folks every opportunity i get.

I suppose i lied. I did get what i want, or should i say, EXPECT. As in, she couldn't answer the question, which is what i figured would happen. I certainly didn't expect, or mean for her to drop F-bombs and speed off.

People are so spineless now days that they will never say anything to upset these radical type groups, just let them keep voicing their opinion, let them keep insulting my beliefs, my freedoms but if I say anything I am an A**hole, I'm out of line blah blah F***ing blah. So what he asked the lady a question. Big deal. At least he knows what he believes and is not afraid to voice his opinion if it comes down to it. If everyone just keeps quite not to upset groups like this just because we might look bad hell we would get walked all over. Why do we donate money to groups to keep lands open, To Keep Land Open. Hell if we don't ever ask people questions and get our opinion out there we will go unheard and get stomped on. So I guess all I am saying is I don't think asking someone a question is that big of deal and my hat goes off to SAMI for taking a side and sticking with it.

I know i fell off as a Land Use Officer, that's no real secret. I try to do what i can, and i know i still fall short. But when/if time allows, i would love to be stopping by club meetings every other month or so with updates and stuff... It's true that there is a gap to be bridged, and i think that sounds like a good job.

I think things are slowly moving forward(as far as state concerns go). With the recent Utah Reps going after SUWA, if we keep on the Reps hopefully eventually we could see better management from BLM and FS? maybe... sure would be cool huh?

AMEN...Hats off to SAMI. Although we'll never really know the complete impact of his conversation it could have done some good...I think it's apparent that she had no clue what her sticker really meant and instead of admitting it she jumped to the defense but maybe she did a little research when she got home.

I would do the same thing SAMI did if given the oppertunity although I usually have my handsfull with the radio cranked and a cig burning paying very little mind to the stickers on cars around me. I would like to challenge anyone who cares to do the same as SAMI... if anything make the person think. They chose to put their opinion on their vehicle and that is their right, and if they really support the subject they would be more than willing to speak on it.

The comment was said that if the person was asked about their U4 sticker they would respond the same way she did. That is the most F'ed comment I've read on here in a while. If that is your opinion please remove it from your vehicle. If anyone pulled up next to me and asked me about U4 I would more than willingly pull over and offer them answer's to any of their questions!!

Fine I'll explain, when Sami asked if the driver knew what her sticker meant, she asked if he did. Sami never said, "yeah I know what it means, I just want to know if you do."
He came back with "do YOU know what it means."
He then admitted to wanting to get into a debate at a red light.
If that's what you want to do then fine do it. I'm not gonna debate someone at a red light. If someone wants to talk wilderness or U4 I will more than happily talk to them anywhere that we have more than a few seconds to talk. If someone came up to me when I was getting out of my car and asked about the sticker, I would definately talk about it. Any clearer?
