I didnt start breaking shafts until I swapped in the 1tons.
Ive spent alot of $$$ trying to keep the d60's together, (james watched me shatter my rear 60 housing) with a 22re none the less.
If you stick with a 37" youl B fine!

also all my inside axles parts are all upgraded so it dont have the tiny u joints and shitty shafts.

you just made the diff the weak point like i said. but aside from that the thought of 37's on those cute little knuckles and balljoints scares me anyways... oh and the unit bearings

The TJ i have had a Super 30 kit in it when I bought it. I don't fear running 35s at all. I ran 37s on Dana 44s in comps for a couple of years and the weak point was the u-joint. That was before CTMs and similar products. I'm not a big throttle guy though. On the other hand there are people out there that can break anything they're driving, no matter how built.

hey now theres no such thing as a built dana30.
And jeeps are great reliable rigs, just as soon as you swap out the axles, motor, tranny, and t-case.

yeah jeeps suck, you should sell it and get a 30 year old toyota with 17 horsepower and a 100000000000000000:1 crawl ratio cause those are the best:rolleyes:

while i disagree with the d30 thing altogether, just let the yota guys talk crap, you can do a trail they can't- it's called the fast lane

true cause we build rock crawlers to go in the fast lane.. not do hard trails.. anyways .. i think everyone has there own needs and wants out of a rig.. jeeps are cool.. you can drive it to the trail.. take more passangers, more gear , more weight more crap.. to be honest iv even thought about buying a cheep cherokee for a camping rig..

some of us have to drive to the trails. i've been on both sides of the spectrum and i sure appreciate not having to trailer my rig everywhere, it sucked to be honest. does that mean i don't want an offroad only rig? no, in fact i'd like to have both :D but yeah it doesn't make sense for me right now.

i could care less about the toyota vs jeep deal- i'll wheel with anyone, but if some dude in a glass house is throwing rocks at my glass house i'm going to throw bigger rocks back. they both have pros and cons and a lot of it is based on opinion anyways

Curious, most built toys I have seen handle the freeway just fine?

just for comparison... xj's range from 85 to 193 hp according to wiki and 4runners range from 97 to 190 in comparable years (up to 01)

just like to fan the flames...

pre-1985 toys with stock motor, twelve t-cases and 35-37's? i never see them on the freeways. in fact i rarely see stock trucks of that age on the freeway. every now and again i see a sami in the slow lane and i smile cause i love 'em

unfortunately i am one of those guys that has to worry about my vehicle being "well rounded". i'll take my six-cylinder(hell i'd love a v8) even if it means i don't get a frame

edit: you changed your post while i was replying so yeah...
i'm not talking about v6 runners and trucks, i was referring to the old 4cylinder models which are in the same price range (or higher) as xj's. when i bought my xj i looked into yotas too cause i thought a frame would be neat this time around. the trucks that were in my price range ($1500) were 30 years old, had adorable little carb'd 4cylinders that make wayyyyy less than the 97 hp you speak of and were rusty piles of crap. for my $1500 i got a 17 year old 6 cylinder with 4 doors etc

funny how to make yourself feel better, you are comparing your xj to a toyota that was built before xj's existed.

(I guess we could compare a 84 xj to an 84 4runner)

not trying to make myself feel better by any means, i am comfortable in my preference of my xj over the other vehicles that were within my price range. sure i could spend a little more and get a 90's toyota with the v6 that most toyota guys seem to really hate... you know the one you pulled the hp numbers from  and then i'd have super-awesome ifs!

we could do this all day if you want and we won't agree. there are just too many variables. and don't get me wrong i like yota's, like i said i wanted to get one. i went and drove an 85 runner but they are just too much $$$, the 22re left me wanting more and that was the "good" 4cyl

sir, i respectfully disagree :)

I never picked a side, I just put up comparable numbers from comparable rigs, I used 1984 to 01 specs on both the 4runner and xj.
