Leaving rigs in Moab/st George storage

Is there anyone on here who leaves there rigs in storage somewhere ? Our tow rig gets about 3 mpg so we have been discussing finding rv parking(hopefully covered with security) at a storage facility and leave our tow rig with both crawlers on it there and just drive the Hyundai down every other weekend any thoughts ?

I haven't done it but there is a storage area on telegraph, close to Washington parkway. Seems like they have tons of rv's and boats in there. Fully gated. I think it's about 30 or less a month.

Is that good for rv storage?

I had my trailer and blazer stored at a storage unit for the first few months we lived here, didn't have any problems, just sucked if I needed to work on it and didn't feel like towing it back. Like Thardy said though, I couldn't only have access to it during certain times. Not sure how many storage units are 24 hours. It was parked outside, the inside units went way up in price.

I have considered getting a property in StG or Moab and keeping my rig there but then I realized I am working on my Jeep wayyyy too much so I'd need tools and time to work on it wherever I kept it. I'd prefer not to spend the first day or two of my vacation prepping my rig with limited tools.

Idealy it would be nice to get a few trips in per tow to either location... I've def thought about it for St George too, but there is just way to many variables that can go wrong and require wrenching, fabing, welding and plain old grunt work to keep these rigs working. Maybe you could just play it by ear and get a few trips in to try the system out (if you do keep the rig together) and see how it goes.

Even one or two consolidated trips a year would be worth it if you could get all them variables to cooperate.... maybe planning to do less technical trails in a group of 2 or 3 trips would be a good start and then you'll get a better idea of how the system works for ya. Hands down if your tow rig or pocket book can't handle dragging the rig all over, but you know your gonna want to wheel more (which I know you do) then just try to adjust a bit. (by doing less technical trails & leaving the rig in moab).

Where there's a WILL there a WAY... esp as a team.

That's why Moab seems like the better choice a few good friends and farbee jeep rentals told me I could use the shop when I need to ..

But st George has a Walmart ;)

I've thought about this for years, but didn't want to only wheel in one location. We wheeled in Moab a couple weeks ago and plan to hit St George in a couple of weeks. I work on my rig way to much to leave it hours from the house. Also, not sure the price of storage would be cheaper than towing home. JMHO.

bart i get what your saying if we only had 1 rig its not too bad.. but the only way we can pull both is with maddies international with a 466 gas motor 500 miles ( to moab and then trails) devided by 3mpg = 166.67 gallons of gas times 3.59 598$ in gas to get there , the trails, and back

we need to just get a bigger trailer i can pull behind my dads cummins i guess..

we bought the international w/ 26 ft deck flat bed trailer when planning to move to st george .. maybe a motor swap in the future? truck has 33,000 miles on it motor has been replaced once in that time and rear end. tranny was rebuilt

My 85 International cab over got 6 loaded and 9 empty pulling a 53 dry van. You need to get it tuned up correctly would be my guess.
