    Gas mileage

My daily driver/hunting/camping/exploring vehicle is a '86 F250, Extracab, longbed, 4x4, carbed 460, swapped in '89 ZF 5 speed, BW 1345, 3.55 gears, and 315/75/16 BFG mud terrrains. Around town, I get 10-11. On the highway at 65 mph I get 14-18 depending on where I am traveling. At 70, it...

    Ford 6-speed tranny?

I have a '89 ZF 5 speed I swapped into my '86 F250. No problems in the year I have had it in the truck (it already had 177,000 miles on it when I got it too). My only complaint (if it can really be called that) is that reverse seems a bit........shallow, I guess, when you shift into it. Every...

    Trailer Wood Deck Maintenance Questions

It will work, but from what I have seen, it is not a good option (My employer sells it). It is VERY rot resistant, and just about care free for life.....but, it is heavy (depending on the size it can weight considerably more than the same size piece of lumber), color fades over time when...

    Budbuilt traction bar

Would you recommend a passenger side install, two arms, or a different type of setup? I am looking into some type of anti-wrap setup for my F-250, and have been looking at fabricating a single arm style (similar to the Bud's), since it would work better in the space I have, and I have never...

Automatic or manual tranny for off-roading?

That is where I am at with my truck. Its a beast off road with its 155" wheelbase, but gets me where I want to go.......those places being mostly gravel roads, rutted two-tracks in the desert, camping and hunting, and some occasional playtime in the sand. My manual works good for me, and I...

    Frame modifications and state inspections

If it dosen't look like a drunk monkey did it, you should be fine. Nice, clean welds, and some spray paint..........and its likely no one will ever notice, let alone question it for inspection.

Wearing a spare as a tophat?

The biggest drawback for me would be getting the 200 lbs of tire and wheel up to the roof, and back down. I will admit I am a wussy, and its not like you would be needing to get it up/down everyday (I hope), but, personally, I would find a place a little more accessable, or leave off all...

    dodge 208 behind chevy tranny?

Not sure about the 208, but my younger brother is running a Dodge NP203 in his '76 Chevy with a TH350. No mods needed.......shift linkage, shaft lenght and spline count, mounting holes, etc. were all the same. Bolted right in, and was already converted to part time.

    bobbed my 86 nissan 720 14 inches!(pics inside)

I like it. I had an '82 720 King Cab 4x4 for a few years. Very underappreciated, was quite a capable wheeler in stock form. Wish I still had it.............stupid electrical fire :(

    suburban 2500

My brother had a 4X4 '99 2500 with the 7.4 and 4.10's. It pulled a 28' enclosed tripple axle trailer at about 10,000 lbs quite a few times, and did it quite well. The milage sucked, city or highway, fully loaded with the trailer or traveling with just the driver, it would hover between 10-12...

So how much clearance is high clearance?

Yup. My 155" wheelbase F250 has about 22" under the nice, flat belly, and rides on 315/75/16 BFG Mudders.........but the length of the beast limits it more than any other factor. Quite often I am stopped not only by the HUGE turning radius, but by the horrible breakover angle that will leave...

Anyone know nice scenic trails in the northern part of utah

I have no idea how to get to the Ice Caves from the west side of the mountains (although I am sure it is possible), I have always come up from Paris, ID (have family north of Beat Lake). Highway 89 thru Logan Canyon to Garden City, then north along 89 as it follolws the west side of Bear Lake...
