The nuvi 500 comes with US Topo maps built-in and can accept other Garmin maps. I got the southwest 24K maps for mine. I really like it for off-roading.

Good info littlyota. Another thing that bothers me about lojack is that you can't transfer it to another vehicle. It seems that none of the systems are ideal. Most of the ones GPS based ones also use cell phone service. Still, that's probably better than what lojack uses.

Yeah, there always seem to be compromises. The nuvi 500 does do turn by turn directions and it does topo. But, I don't know if the turn by turn stuff works off highway, I think it does not. There are some other things the 500 doesn't do as well as some of the other nuvis, for instance it doesn't...

The mud was real minor. I don't think they actually did anything to hurt the jeep other than killing my console and steering column and taking my stereo. The officer apparently removed some stolen items from the jeep before I got there. But there was still a whole bunch of personal crap left...
