The body lines aren’t bad but the factory snorkel just automatically rules it out for me. Never. Ever.

I don't disagree since I own one, but the downside is the incredible complexity. You have a full ICE system with a traditional drive train and then a full electric system with everything that entails, then you also have all the systems that combine those two systems. It is crazy complex compared to the simple Tesla.

Complex, but with the 'One Motor' system Toyota uses, a failure of the hybrid doesn't leave one stranded, you'd perform just like the non-hybrid. I'm assuming with a ton of lights on the dash :D

The motor rides in what is essentially the bellhousing between the engine and the transmission. It can engage as needed (programmed).

From what I understand, the batteries in hybrids are smaller and use much less lithium etc than do full electrics.

The Tacoma/4Runner/LC hybrid battery is much smaller than I anticipated given the very noticeable power increase one feels while driving.

It is also worth noted that a significant amount of electricity is generated by the vehicles themselves, so not all the power comes from the electric grid.

In the case of the Tundra, Sequoia, Tacoma, 4Runner & Land Cruiser, all of the power is generated by themselves, they only store what they generate in low demand times to be used in high demand times, no plugs.

I like the sound of the rear axle being a 9.5". IIRC, that was what the FZJ80 I had was.

Whatever failed in the A.D.D. on the TFL Tacoma, is still disconcerting to me.

I'd also like to know gear ratios in the Diffs, Transmission and T-case. Is the part-time T-case the VF2BM? Such as what's in the 5th gen 4Runner with the dial T-case shifter?

Any word on fuel tank capacity?

Those specs were not shared and things can/will change between now and start of production. I’d expect them to be the same as the LC250 on most items. Tcases are different obviously on the part-time vs full-time 4WD systems.

If the snorkel is the only thing stopping The Smoothmeister from buying a new 4Runner, I'll eat my hat.
Hey now, I've owned a Toyota for a handful of years now. The wife has an '18 Highlander and it's fine. I like driving it but still have complaints when comparing it to the Honda's we've had. I don't think I've ever seen a 4Runner with a 3rd row but my google-fu tells me it's an option... so it could be a contender to replace the Highlander at some point but alas that is up to her. I expect the $$$ would be a massive hurdle as well since they'll surely be roughly a billion dollars. The Grand Highlander will likely make a strong case as the replacement as well.

Here's how I'm feeling at the moment, as a Toyota fanboy since the 80's.

I'm not liking the wheel flares that don't extend all the way to the bottom of the wheel wells. It looks stupid, but the RAV4 has the same look.

I'm not big on the short space behind the seats, if you want the floor flat. That would necessitate unbolting the rear seats and removing them from the vehicle, if I wanted to sleep in back.

Better fuel economy would be nice, but it will likely have a smaller gas tank. So the need to carry extra fuel remains.

I don't like the tablet stuck on the dash look.

I still have no idea exactly what failed on TFL's Tacoma. Supposedly the A.D.D., but what part, and does the 4Runner have the same part,?

Unless it really impresses in person, I'll likely stick with my 5th gen TRD ORP.

It's a coupler that ironically is the designer failure point, it has a part line intentionally put there. If one carried a spare (or a stock unit after a chromoly upgrade), it can be fixed. They are planning a traction control fix to resolve.

Yes, the part-time 4wd 4Runner shares that part. The full-time 4Runner and Land Cruiser do not.

If it's a designed failure point how hard is it to change on the trail?

unless this is a new design it should be similar to this and I'm expecting something like part 41433.

I don't recall ever hearing of a failure with the A.D.D. in past models. I've never had a failure, but then I kept the engines stock, gearing stock, and at most just an inch or two larger tires. They were just coming into use when I was a Master Tech at a Toyota dealer.

I watched the TFL video where their A.D.D. failed, and that instance didn't appear to be an extreme load on the drivetrain. But it could have been weakened at some prior time, and just that bit more load on the icy slope, was the final straw.

I wonder if they redesigned the needle bearing (41331G) which are known to be a potential issue. ECGS has their Bushing they sell.
