    Roll Cage Discussion

I have no opinion about what size to use, it really depends on the intended use. In general bigger OD same wall tubing will be stronger when loaded in tension, compression, bending, and torsion. I'm not sure about dent resistance, but I think wall thickness would be more important than OD...

I'd try a thread restoring file before I threw it away. Much cheaper than a die. Guess I was too late

    Group buy dom

I need 3 or 4 sticks of 1.75x.120 but I won't be ready for at least a week. If you push your date back let me know. There's enough guys buying steel on RME that we should form a co-op so we get better pricing all the time!

transfer case e-brake; what might work?

The Northern Tool caliper is made by Airheart which is owned by Tolomatic. I bought one a while back and it does look just like the wilwood. Mine is for a 1/4" rotor, but as someone pointed out you can separate the halves and put a spacer in to work with different size rotors. What isn't...

    4l60e disassemble?

The ATSG manuals are excellent. I used one to rebuild a 700R4. The first one takes a while, but it's not hard. You have to take everything out to replace the outputshaft then stack it all back in. The special tools can all be made pretty easy with a welder and decent pile of junk. If you...

    Miller 251 problem/question

I've had my MM251 for 5 years and it never does this. It sounds like somehow you're entering the wire run in mode. Do you set the mig gun in some kind of holder that might keep the trigger pressed? If not maybe the trigger is going bad. Here are the instructions from Miller on setting the...

Need shop to do large radius bends in aluminum?

As stated I'm looking for a shop that can bend some 6061 aluminum tubing. The tube is 1.25" diameter .065 wall. The bend radius needs to be 15 inches or possibly bigger. I'm guessing this will require a roll bender? The nature of this job will probably require the work be done by a larger...

    TH700R4 strength

The limit for how much torque and HP a 700R4 will handle depends on how much money you want to put into it. 420 ft lbs of torque is a little high for a stock tranny. With the right upgrades it would be pretty reasonable.

    Where to buy exhaust tubing?

I built my own exhaust from universal Flowmaster tubing kits I bought from Summit. The kits had 4 or 5 pieces of aluminized mandrel bent tube with different angle bends at the end of each piece. I bought a 2.5" kit to build the crossover and Y and a 3" kit to go from the Y back.

    AC recharge/conversion

I put a can of Duracool in my 1989 XJ that was a little low on refrigerant. It ran ice cold for 2 years before I sold it last fall. You can buy Duracool online. Yes, it's made of propane. No, that shouldn't worry you at all.

    Alternator keeps burning up

What alternator do you have, the old SI style or the newer CS? The SI series had a 2 wire connector. The big wire is the sense wire and needs full voltage. The other wire is the field current and needs either a resistor or a warning light in the circuit (30 to 60 ohms IIRC). No resistor or...

    Off Road Carbs

78mitsu are you using 90 or 80 lb injectors? How does it run below 1000 RPM? I picked up a TBI computer at a junk yard about a year ago, but decided to stick with my carb after reading about problems tuning the lower RPM range. It sounds like I should reconsider.

    Off Road Carbs

My Holley TA runs great up steep angles and idles fine. I looked really hard at running TBI, but with a 330 horse GM crate engine the cost was too close to a multi port system. I would have needed a big block throttle body and big injectors or really high fuel pressure to keep it from leaning...

    Off Road Carbs

After about 300 HP even TBI can start getting expensive ($1000 +). I have some experience with the Holley Truck Avenger. It took a lot of tuning, but I'm happy with the way it is running now. If you don't plan on spending a decent amount of timing setting it up you probably won't like it. I...
