Jeep Nathan and Tanja's 99 XJ Build up

*Warning horrible welding pictures ahead!* I have always believed that the exhaust was undersized, it is 2.25 inch and has some smaller restrictions in it. I really didn't want to buy a bender so I looked into buying pre-bent sections and welding them up. I have a decent welder and am working...

3/4 ton GM's, Hummers had similar issues. A the tie rod sleeve helped a lot. That guy stripped the gears in the rack. Probably stripped the rack after one tie rod failed. If you go through the thread (don't bother it is mostly an internet fight about if ford should or shouldn't warranty the...

    Ford 2021 Ford Bronco

There is a Cyber Orange 4 door in front of Ken Garf WV Ford, it isn't on their inventory. I haven't felt like stopping by and asking about it. I would love to "test drive" a 4dr JLUR from Ken Garf Jeep next door and park it next to the Bronco to get a real good look at size etc. **edit...

    Ford 2021 Ford Bronco

I totally agree with the Gladiators, Ken Garff had a Metallic Grey Rubicon on about 37's on Bangerter and 35th for a month or so, I drove by it everyday, I am really surprised it isn't currently in my driveway, that thing looked good! As for the Bronco truck, other than Sasquatch package...

    Ford 2021 Ford Bronco

Digging through ford.com it looks like the 7 speed manual may not be available on the 4 door. It really seems like a waste to develop/market a 7 speed and it is not available with the v6, not available with the sasquatch, not available on the 4 door. In about 2023 I was hoping to pick up a...

Jeep Nathan and Tanja's 99 XJ Build up

My track bar has never gotten that close to my oil pan, I have so many other things that will hit before the track bar hits the support (I think). I guess I should cycle the suspension with the springs out... 37's and "up travel" on an xj is always interesting. Also if the support bar moves...

Test fitting bracket Painting the bar Passenger side spot welded and bolted in Almost ready for a drive. (more on that later...) So part of the reason I haven't built this support before is that I couldn't decide the best way to attach it, make it removable, and make it compliant if...

Jeep Nathan and Tanja's 99 XJ Build up

More track bar bracket support work. So the passenger side "frame" rail has some bolt holes that seem to be for the track bar bracket on right hand drive models. So I made a plate to bolt through those holes. It will be welded to the "frame" as well. This is one of those really annoying...

Jeep Nathan and Tanja's 99 XJ Build up

Alright lets play fabricator! Here is a shot of the drop down trackbar mount, it is long! That "C" has to be filled in since I am going to put a 3/4 inch hole in that area. Well lets do what everyone needs to do with their XJ, add some more plate to the frame! I got out the cardboard and...

Jeep Nathan and Tanja's 99 XJ Build up

Well I spent all that time and effort straightening out the hole in the hi-steer arm. Yeah that hole needs to be angled... So I got busy with the plasma cutter After a bunch of welding and grinding... (I did take the knuckle off the jeep to work on it on the bench) Alright time to cycle...

    Ford 2021 Ford Bronco

That picture of that manual gearshift knob with the "C" Nice Ditto Me thinks a set of axles from a SD might keep all the sensors happy. Well it is a 2021 model, it is just being announced in 2020 so there is hope. The thing that I am most hopeful about is that in the Baja press event they...

Jeep Nathan and Tanja's 99 XJ Build up

Ta-da 3/4 holes I am going to have to move my tie rod from over the knuckle to under the knuckle. This is going to require modifying the ram mount on the tie rod. This also gave me a chance to make my mount 2 pieces instead of one. With one piece I had to remove a tie rod end to remove the...

Jeep Nathan and Tanja's 99 XJ Build up

Well since the two death wobbles I decided to go Heim Joint steering links. The Tie rod was relatively easy. The knuckles were drilled out to 7/8 with TRE taperes in them. So just pop out the Tie Rod tapered inserts and run some 7/8 Heims. Parts Weld tube inserts Paint and install some...

    Building TURBO system for YJ

As always insanely clean work! If the distributor bugs you... The 2000ish + 4.0L with a distributorless ignition still have the gear to drive the oil pump, they have a little Cam Position sensor on top of them. I don't know if it will swap into your 4 cylinder but it might be worth looking...

    Kevin's (slow) Excursion mod/upgrade thread

I am not recommending but my Bronco had a leaf sprung dana 60 with 37's and no track bar, I never had a wobble on that thing. That thing was heavy, but the 460 was nowhere near as heavy as the diesel. I know a few other guys that did the same exact leaf spring d60 swap and had similar luck...

Jeep Nathan and Tanja's 99 XJ Build up

Wow no updates in over a year. I did have a ridiculous bathroom renovation that took way longer than expected, but if you ever have the chance to put heated tile floor in your bathroom, DO IT! (for us it added about $800 in materials, worth every penny) Anyway if you have been following this...

    Cooling tips.

First thing I would ask you is "are looking at the dash temp gauge?", if yes, then get better data. I had an exhaust valve stick I thought I was running at about 215 because that is what the dash gauge said. After having the head rebuilt and installing a digital gauge from summit I have found...
