I'll go with 1995zj on this one. Starting from scratch 8 lug is the only way to go, but if ya already got 5 on 5.5 wheels and alloy axles (semi float) in the rear, it is way cheaper and easier to convert to the same in the front.

You're right on. The "experienced" (not that you aren't) are saying to shoot for 1-1/2" with a minimum of 1-1/4 on 35 spline axles.

How many inches of spline engagement between the axle and carrier side gear should there be on a 35 spline D60? I'm going from a HP to a standard housing and would like to make it as wide as possible with the present axles.
