Has anyone out there modified an 01 Dodge Ram 1500? I have a friend that would like to do gears and lockers, but I have no idea what axles they run or what is available.

So, what's out there for this truck? What axles does it run? Where is the best online place to look for modifications to it?

Aren't they a front D44 and rear 8.75? Both pretty OK axles, but in a heavy truck like that, the front could be taxed quite a bit with big tires and extreme angles. I think if you stuck to 35" tires and about 6" of lift, you'd get by OK.

Nothing wrong with adding a lift and tires and having some fun on the trails with it, though. With that wheelbase and wheel bolt pattern, you've got a LOT of options in decently strong rear axles if you can't find anything for the stock one (I'd go with a 9", personally if the Chrysler unit isn't very well supported by the aftermarket).
