I have a 78 Bronco with 37's on it. I just bought a new power steering pump and a steering gear. And was curious what sequence I should replace them in if it matters at all. Any advice??? Thanks
Generally the pump goes out, especially turning big tires. Try that first, also with runnig tires bigger than 35s, try plumbing in a bigger cooler for the power steering fluid, that will help the pumps to last longer.
If you can, I think you would be better off to return the pump. The plastic pumps that Ford used on those Broncos just are not up to the task. It is a pretty easy swap to put a Saginaw power steering pump on.
thanks. I'll try the pump first then see how it works. I have had a leek an the top of the steering gear box it's self. I have tried tightening the bolts and such, but it still leeks bad.
So are you fixed? As long as we're not mangled from the Labor Day trip, I'm feeling the need for a Farmington run after Bjorn's party on the 12th. You should come.
