Anybody know a good Mitsubishi mechanic?

Kurt was able to refer me to a great Toyota shop in SLC where I take my cruiser as needs arise. They've been great, and I've referred others to their shop. I really like having a mechanic with deep knowledge or experience specific to my vehicles work on them.

So, I'd like to find a good Mitsubishi specialist to take my Montero to if something comes up. I prefer to avoid dealerships where possible, but I'm willing to go there if I can't find a better option. Any recommendations?

I am pretty good at diagnosing these things after owning 7 of them. From my experience any competent mechanic can fix these things. I have always done my own work and I would say I am just your average joe.

I have an experienced Mitsubishi technician working for me. But I'm curious as to why you want a specialist, but prefer not to use a dealership?

I am not dead set against dealerships. I have spent thousand at the Ford dealership having work done on my F350. My personal observation is that dealerships tend to cost more money, and they don't always get it right, either. Also, when I go there I feel like I'm communicating with an organization, rather than an individual mechanic who remembers what we talked about last time, gives me their opinion on what's urgent and what can wait, and who is enthusiastic about the aftermarket. I just haven't been super impressed by my experience with dealerships, but will go there if I feel that's where there will be the least guesswork.

Contrast that to when I've gone to G&R Diesel in Draper - they seem to be familiar with the little quirks of the 7.3 motor, and they can recommend different service/part options based on how much power I want, or budget, or timeline, or whatever. A much more pleasing experience than the Ford dealership.

SO, my dream would be to find someone who maybe has the skills of the dealership techs, is a Mitsubishi enthusiast, has owned or had extensive experience with Monteros, is someone I can work with directly, and who understands which parts should stay OEM, and which ones are fine to substitute.

Gotcha. The reason I ask is because I've worked for dealerships for many years. I'm always curious on the perception of why people think they cost more. My opinion is biased but I've also seen the other side.

As far as your "dream-tech" I wish you the best of luck. Unfortunately I'm from the other side of the valley so I don't have a good referral. If you find him, please post up!

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread! :)

I'm in the same boat, I have never taken my vehicles to a dealer for anything. The only things I haven't done in almost 20 years of owning cars was when I had gears set up or automatic transmission work, maybe that's why my Jeep still runs like new almost 15 years later.
