Axle Trusses

I am in the process of building a rear Dana 44 for my 4runner. I want to truss it and beef it up so that I don't bend it. Has anyone here done a homemade truss? I would like to build my own and not have to use a kit if I don't have to. Pics and advise would be helpful.

There are a few different ways to do this...

The first way would be to make it all by hand, Start with the top plate and shape it to fit how you want and then make a template for the front and back and just fill in the gaps.

The second way would be to draw up a file in a CAD program and have Carl cut it out for you.

I have done both quite a few times but I definately try to use Carls table as much as possible.

I have cut to a section of 2 or 3 by 6 or 8 box depending on the axle for trusses before.

Thats a good idea, it just seems like I never have the correct size for a truss and I always have plate on hand so thats what gets used
