I feel silly for posting this question. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find my answer from searching.

When replacing the ball joints on a dana 30 do you need to drain the diff?

This is my first adventure of doing ball joints. I have a Haines manual and all the tools to get the job done, just wasn't planning on replacing my diff fluid as well.

No you don't. The one thing to watch for, when you pull the axleshafts out it's possible you'll have some gear oil spill into the axle tubes through the seal the axleshaft was previously poked through. How much depends on the actual fill level, and if the axle is angled or whatnot.
