camping in moab

i'll be in moab for a few days next week so i'm looking for a decent place to camp outside moab. i don't feel like staying in a campground. i know this has been discussed a few times. i don't mind being out in the middle of nowhere. any ideas? -grant

Sandflats rd area is good, even tho its kinda updated. You could always keep going east on sandflats rd until you are in the middle of nowhere.

I'd check out the area around/behind Kens Lake. If you drive thru Moab, keep heading South for a few miles and you'll see a sign for Kens Lake, to the East. There's a man-made lake, a small camping area and a running waterfall/stream. It's a pretty decent place, not too far from town.

Almost anywhere along the river there are beaches that you can camp on for free. You may have to get out and walk through some shrubs to get to them but they are free and beautiful.
