Camping near Zion

Hey guys,
Planning a trip down to Zion this weekend with my dorm mates. I'm planning to camp on BLM land. It looks like there's a lot of space up north of Virgin, UT, but that'd be at least a 20 minute drive each morning/evening to the trailheads/shuttle. Does anybody know if there are places east of Springdale to camp on BLM land, or are the designated campsites (not my style) the only options there?

Look at the Guacamole trail area, or Gooseberry Mesa. Both of those areas should have options of what you're looking for. This time of year, it'll be busy with mountain bikers, though. That being said, I'd recommend taking a mountain bike...

We actually found a REALLY neat little area next to the creek up Kolob Canyon road. Amazing trip.
