We used a random log one time. We slathered the tire in gear oil and i had to stand on it for a few miles to keep it from riding up.

A company actually made a tool with rollers that bolted on for that. It was pretty funny

Not really a trick... But I was undoing a tight bolt (I hate steel bolts in aluminum threads) and the head slipped from my cheater bar and started to round off a bit, tried a couple more times and each time the socket just wanted to back away from the flange of the nut. Stopped right there and ran to Wal-Mart for a 1 A.M. C-clamp (haven't brought any here to the new house yet) and did this; worked like a charm. Most likely wouldn't work in every situation but maybe. The yellow drips are PB Blaster overspray.
