So I have a 1976 k20 with a standard tranny that im putting a new 454 in and my question is. Is the bell hosing for a 350(because that is what it originally had) smaller than a bell hosing for a 454. because for some reason they wont butt together so I can bolt them up. Any thoughts.

GM bolt patterns are all the same. A GM auto will bolt to a small or big block. I swapped a big block in place of a small block with my 465 and had NO issues.

That is what i thought butt it will not slide all the way together there is about a 1/4 of an inch gap between the two. What would be holding it up?

I had the same problem when swapping my 4.3

There are different bell houisings for the newer model GM vehicles. Sounds to me like you will need a new bellhousing to match the motor, or also some trannies have a longer input shaft than some others..:( :(

Maybe a hose or wire slipped down behind block?

The other possibility is the Pilot Bushing is too small and the input shaft isn't sliding into it as it should be. Measure the Pilot Bushing, then measure the input shaft and see if they are close. I don't know if you will be able to get a micrometer in to measure the bushing but you can try.

I had to replace the pilot bushing because the one on the 454 was too small so i bought a new one and we test fitted it before we put it in so i know that it will fit. There are no wiring or hoses to fall behind it I yanked all of it out and haven't got the new harness in yet.
