July 4,2011 in Ouray/Silverton area trails in the high San Juans. Quite easy trails but lots of fun in early July to drive thru the plowed areas on the high passes plus look down on frozen lakes just as soon as they are plowed. Don't come to the Montrose area W/O seeing some of these high old mining trails and sites. Lots of high trails still not open due to snow such as Black Bear, Imogene, Governor Basin, and Poukeepsie Gulch. Do the hot low elevation tough trails west of Montrose then take a day and cool off on the high San Juan trails south of Montrose.

Thanks for the great photos I will take your advice run the lower trails and cool off on the upper trails.I will be looking for camping sites in montrose for a tent and a central location so were able to get to the trails with out trailering if possible, were not street legal?

Sparky it looks like montrose 8th or 9th depends on the trails in montrose if we head to grand junction ,you should do the hole trip with us?

This should help- http://www.traildamage.com/google_colorado.php

You should also look into Holy Cross too, outside of Leadville. Fun & scenic, still a bit challenging.

Montrose will be fun, Carnage Canyon should be plenty challenging, 21 Road outside of Fruita is a blast if you're looking for big rocks. It's long enough to take up a full day.

Thanks greg just trying to put a good trip together ,I have my sister coming from ohio to join us.Buena vista is the frist stop then montrose asap.someone told me I will be able to set up camp in montrose area and run five trails from there?

Hope those dates will work for you guys, like to have you along? let me know we have an option to leave Friday night or early Saturday.

:-\ Wish we could. Summer is my busy time at work, and I have a hard time getting away for more than 1 or 2 days. November-February I'd do a week no problem :D
