I want to start off by thanking wydej for telling me about this event and inviting me to come along. I took full advantage of the trip and stopped at Devil’s Tower on the way and checked out Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer National Park, a couple caves and other things with the days before the event.
For me the off-roading was a bit of a disappointment because I had a crack in my steering box cap that limited my trail time. The trails however where fantastic and I am hoping to make the event again next year. I managed to complete Bikini and start T-back on the first day before we left the trail. I barely got started on Hal John’s the second day before the repair failed and I was turned around. The third day I was making good progress on Flat Nasties when the repair again failed and the small crack became a big crack and I lost my power steering forcing me to call it a day. The trails where not only challenging but scenic as well with views of Mount Rushmore on the first day.
I highly recommend this event to all. They limit it to 100 rigs but only had about 70 this year. I fell in love with the Black Hills and have already put in for a transfer to the Air Force base there by Rapid City.
