if its a 4 cyl, they all sound the same to me. With a six, I prefer anything that is a through shot rather than something like a Flowmaster, but I also like things loud. Cheap: Cherry Bomb, like $20. If you want performance too, I would go with an Aero. Have one on both my Dodge and Wrangler. Quite a bit more pricey, but cheaper than a full on cat back system.

take the cat out and put a cherry bomb on it

or just cut the exaust off right after the cat

both cheap and sound allright, but you cant really make these sound good

I think that the turbo series mufflers by hedman sound really good on the 20R's, and there pretty cheap. Just don't weld it one backwards like I did or it sounds like it's packed full of potatoes...... Custom very custom.

I despise glasspacks... :D They sound like crap, are restrictive and trashy. (Not to offend those w/ glasspacks :p )

I have a Flowmaster, no cat & a header on my 4Runner & it sounds pretty mean. Too bad it can't back-up the noise with tons of power!

IMO a Flowmaster is overkill for a 22RE. They're designed to evacuate massive amounts of exhaust, very efficently. I think they're great on a bigger performance engine, but a stock 2.4 liter Toyota is not a performance motor. I think the best choice would be a high-quality, straight thru turbo muffler. I like the Magnaflow's & I'm really intrested in the new Aero mufflers that '1993yj' mentioned. Aero is actually a local shop & they are a vendor on here!

My 79 does not have a cat. I went with a cherry bomb and it exits out right in front of the rear drivers side wheel. It sounds great and I can feel a little more power.
