Flexible tie Rods

Has any one used one of these things?

I have been on two trips recently and wasted two tie rod ends after bashing the rod into a rock. The tie rod itself gets scratched but no worse for wear.

Will one of these flexible rods absorb the impact and not transfer all the force directly to the ends?

Thanks,

Wade

I haven't personally used them, but I have heard bad things. Supposedly, after numerous bends they just snap.....I used .250 wall DOM steel tube to make my links and have had no problems.

Marc,

I ran across Go-Fer-it on the internet the other night. What made you choose that one?

I have a Rubicon Express tie rod and it holds up great, I'm just tired of taking out the ends. I've heard that Rubicon rods are know for this becuase they cut them short.

I was tired of the Alumiflex, and Wayne had just bought a Go-Fer-It one. I was kind of impressed with his and thought I'd try it for me. I've had it for about 1 year and have only bent it significantly once. I had to have Rocklogic bend it back in their press as it's pretty sturdy.

Any of the shops could make you one with the same Dodge ends, but make sure it's not got a lot of thread showing as I've had great luck with mine. I'm wondering if I'll actually wear out a rod end or something before replacing the tie rod.

I know you wont need it this beefy but I am sure they can build you what you need...

I have the DOM and taps to make the HD steering, just not 100% sure I have the taps to do the size of thread that you Jeep has, I mosy just deal with Yota stuff....

Know what size it is by chance?

the ends? i dunno, i won't be reusing them. i was gonna get the beefiest ends (dodge i guess) i could find and drill out the knuckle and drag link if i needed to. if yotas are comparable to dodge or at least better than stupid jeeps than that should do it.

:bowing: :D .......Mine is still my steering fuse. I'm pretty happy that it holds up and I don't use up spare tie rods as often as I have in the past. My steering box is still attached to the 'frame' also........

If I ever build something with a real axle, I'll look up the .660 wall. Are you using Chev ends?

Edit: nevermind :D

Lemme know what you find, I'm wanting to do the same thing, except a full-width tierod from knuckle to knuckle with the draglink joining the tierod immediately inside the right TRE. Reverse the taper on the knuckles from above and run a larger TRE, maybe 3/4 ton Chebby?

We do have a website with all these TJ parts you talk about.
HHMM
I would only recommend using Alum Special bars we make as to they hold up for ever...It seems.
But we make steel DOM and alum for tj's and anything else you would like.

As for the fella with the broken ends, you must be using some crappy ends...
Not any of the 68 TJ Tie Rods I have sold have ever had a problem.
Nor do the special custom builts we build. Any length any size tube built the right way not welded in bungs...!?
