I have a 1990 Jeep YJ with a Dana 35 front. I'm seeing gear oil dripping from the end of the axle tube near the right wheel. Is this an axle bearing gone bad?
.. and even then, he could have offered some advice on how to fix the problem.
Chevycrew is likely correct. Dana had the infinite wisdom to stuff the axle seals in close to the differential, so your axle tubes fill up with road gunk and chew up the seals. If I am not mistaken there are OUTER axle seals available from a couple companies that will make this fun job avoidable for longer next time. I can't think of any of those companies offhand though.
You'll need to take out the carrier, which can be difficult. There are outer seals available for the D30. http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/d...Rugged_RidgeQQAxle_SealQQ19872009QQ11103.html
You'll still need to replace the inner seals (do both as long as you're in there), and I've heard mixed reviews on the outer seals. I wouldn't get them, FWIW. Good luck! Wanna do my rear WJ axle seal while you're at it?
