How to dye a soft top?

Does anyone have experience in dying a soft top? My CJ-5 has a "blue jean" soft top which I detest. But it is too good to throw away and I'd like to try and dye it if that is possible. Any hints?

Worst case scenario is that you may have to touch it up every so often.

there is a fabric spray available at checker and auto zone that works like paint but is flexible so it wont crack like paint...
