Well i'm in the hunt for a diffrent job.

I'm mostly leaving my job now because of pay it dosen't seem like it's going to get any better. Dose anyone know any good job openings.

I've looked at a lot of diffrent jobs but nothing worth leaving for.

The job needs pretty good benifits and, 401K junk.

I'm a Motor Carrier specialist for the state so i know alot about trucks and, there saftey. High School grad.

I don't know of anything in your area ... but don't State employees get better pay/benefits then the average joe? Or is that one of those rumors they want everyone to believe?

Are pay is like bigfoot a myth.

Benifits are good but pay isn't getting any better, almost every agancy in Utah is 30% lower in pay then the national avg.

I remember the retirement thing. I don't work for the state, but that is a BS deal!!!

As for raises, sometimes the private vs state employment ... hmm well .. I haven't had a raise in 6 years :( But I have other perks that make up for it .. sort of.

I hope you find a job you like, to me that makes the biggest difference.

problem with national averages is you get places like San Diego or San Jose that completely screw the results. Utah is also one of the cheaper places to live. So even though you're 30% below the national average, you're about in-line with our cost of living vs. the national average. I know this doesn't help ya much :p

Good Luck on the job hunt, I'll keep an eye out for ya...

I just have to chime in on this. I'm also a state employee.

There are both good wages and low wages with state employment. No we have not received raises in the past umpteen years but the benefits are better than anything else around, plus the days off kick butt and in most cases the pay is fair in comparison to your education/training and in comparison to our lower cost of living in Utah. A lot of people I know in private sector jobs that only require a high school education get a weeks vacation per year and some of them unpaid. With the State you start out with a couple weeks paid vacation plus a couple weeks of paid sick leave and it increases with the more years you have. Retirement, 401k options and full health coverage with very small premiums all add up to a lot of $$$. When I started ten yrs ago I figured that my benefits added up to about $12k per year, I'm sure they are a lot higher now.

With State wages- I know some state employees that have 4 yr degrees and make $12 an hour. I know others that have a high school degree and make $14 per hour. Most of the over paid jobs for employees with high school degrees seem to be with DOT so you might just be better off staying put. I honestly don't think you could get paid more anywhere else. Maybe I'm wrong because I'm not in your field but take look around and see what jobs match your skills and education and then compare wages and benefits.
Check out http://jobs.utah.gov That's job services web site. Also check out the Federal jobs website from the link there. Federal jobs pay more than State jobs.

Also the State does have a program that will help you pay to advance your education. Go to school and increase your skills and then try and get a higher paying job. It would most likely give you an advantage it getting promoted in your current job if any openings come up in the future.

As with the schmucks in the legislature that did away with some of our retirement benefits- Get this, once they serve in the legislature for a couple terms they have health insurance for life yet they did away with ours for putting in 30 years. Plus in the same year they gave themselves raises. Ticks me off but I don't see it ever changing. Crooked politicians. I guess they needed a way to pay for their pay increases and health benefits.

Sorry for the long post. :)

have you spoke with your super about your pay? I know with any temp service it costs additional monies on top of their hourly, it's usually about $3-5 more PER hour...so that $14/hr employee through a temp agency is actually costing more like $17-$20 (but usually without benefits so subtract that :D) anyways, I'd talk to your boss and see if your seniority and knowledge mean anything... ;)

They get everything they get benifits they get it all. The only diffrence is they can fire them if they don't like them for any reason. We figured they made more then us because of what you said the extra $3-5 dollars more. what sucks is it's a law enforcment job. Are admins are the ones that had this bright idea so they don't care. I actually have it nice because one of the guys i work with has 10 years on me and i get paid 20 cents less then him.

I'm even looking for a part time job.
