Im trying to find out gearing in a dana 60 help?

I am trying to figure out the gearing in a dana 60 rear end out of a 76 j 20 truck. it came stock with the 401 motor. any help would be appreciated.

if the tag on the diff cover is gone, try getting the numbers off the axle tube, passenger side (?). If that fails, you're going to have to yank the cover, count the teeth on the pinion and the ring gear, and divide.

You can check the front diff cover to see if the tag is on that one, too ya know.. ;) I would say, with no evidence really, that it is probably either a 3.73 or 4.09. I havent' seen any stockers lower than that...

You could always count how many times the driveshaft turns for every rotation of the tire... get a buddy and while going straight ahead mark a spot on the tire, pull slowly forward until the tire has gone one complete rotation and count the number of times the driveshaft turns (3 and 3/4 =3.73) (4 and a little = 4.10).

oh.. uh... yes, that is probably easier LOL

I forgot, most people have tires on their axles, and they're still mounted in the vehicle LOL
