locker ????????

I have a D44 rear with a detroit locker in it. The wheels are currently off and on jack stands, when I rotate the left side by hand, forward all is good the other side also spins forward. when I spin it in reverse some times it acts as if the shaft has come out and nothing spins. I think it was called a soft locker when I bought it. Is this happening because there is no load?

Yes to the no load. lockers usually act funny when you have tires up in the air. I wouldn't be at all concerned unless you notice something strange while driving
