Looking at a Wrangler

I always laugh when people post threads like this but I know Cherokees and what to look for in them.

I'm going to be checking out a few yj's and an wondering if there are any main concerns to be looking for before i buy it. I am planning on getting one that has the 4.0 I6 and is manual, I just sadly haven't payed much attention to them in threads and have no idea what to be looking for in a "good deal"
obviously I would be checking the engine, Transmission, etc.

I am mainly looking for YJ Specific problems concerns.

Thank you in advance for any help.

That one Bart is selling on here is one of the nicest around, and all of the YJ weak points have already been taken care of.

I love my YJ but i hate the 4banger. Don't compromise and get one even if its a good deal.
I've seen a lot of jeep radiators that leaked so inspect thoroughly.
Check motor mounts as they get easily thrashed. if its bad then have the seller knock off some cash. Pita to change.
I've found tapping the frame with a hammer is a good way to find cancer.
my neighbor has had a ton of header issues (cracking) with his 6cyl.

Motor Mounts and Header are the most common
Belley Pan around the bolts holding to frame rust and slip through

YJ's don't listen to the rumors about the round headlights they know better

XJ Lights aren't round... The XJ and YJ are most defanetly Jeeps, they just wanted to be different than the others and probably shouldn't have, but hey what can you do. they kick A$$ all the same

I'm pretty sure my CJ rolled off the line with a 304:confused:

You could get a CJ with a V8 in them off the lot, no problem.

I changed mine out in half an hour, no problem. :-\

Not too important until you have to change it, but 89-93 5-speed tranny's have an internal clutch slave cylinder, 92+ are external. Internal slave cylinders require taking the tranny off and junk to switch them out, a lot harder than the external slaves.

87-89 can have the Peugot trannies and will have carburators, avoid those if you can. EFI is where it's at.

I don't like to think about XJ's as "real Jeeps", since they were designed under the auspices of whoooommmmm? Oh yeah, freakin' Renault. Great company, there. :D

CJ's were availabe with V8's. It is a stock option.

Then again the CJ was built by AMC, and we all know how that worked out......

I think this thread has been officially jacked. :D

And one more time, the CJ was designed by drunk GI's returning from the war, so...

this is really all the Germans' fault. Bastards.

Well for starter it doesn't count as a Jeep. The lights aren't round.

Oh so you wanna talk about real jeeps like a liberty or a compass!
Yeah YJ's are so pathetic with those ugly square lights. I would so much rather have a bonafide real jeep obviously made real by the roundness of the headlight.
