LT's Wild RamCharger

LT is new to the board, He just joined up. He is from my hometown of Los Alamos NM and we both wheel up here in Utah alot. He is a wild guy. He has been into wheeling along time. He has owned several built to the hilt CHevys, and a few Dodges. Right now he has a 87 Dodge Ramcharger which he calls his beater. The motor is a 360 bored over 0.3. He got real happy with the Sawsall and cut tons of the body off, including the roof, and front and fenders. He has a roll cage that is under fab right now. He now has a dana 60 going in for the front and a Corp 14 for the rear. He has Hydr. steering and a bunch of other stuff. He has new tires, 42 Irocs and beadlock rims.

I let him tell you about it. Here are his pictures:

Thanks for all the positive comments y'all. It is coming along well now. I wish I could afford to take all the time off from work that I would like so that I could finish. Maybe next week I can take some time off to get some more work done to it. In other news, I found a BIG winch for sale at a screaming deal. I told the fella that I wanted it and to tell me what shipping would cost me. As soon as I get it I will post up some more pictures.

Oohhh...... what could this be? Another new part for the beater? Perhaps, I have yet to decide if I want it on the Beater or on Sally. We will have to wait and see what happens.

I think I might need some alone time after looking at those pictures!

That is one sweet looking winch!!! You should totally mount that on the front of the Beater!!! You would then be the only one that has a winch big enough in our group to pull out the T-Rex if it is seriously suctioned into the mud!!! I mean there are a couple 12K winches out there, but that extra grunt of the 16.5K might be necessary!:greg:
Love it brother!

The rear four link is tacked in. A few minor adjustments are needed but, it is in and it works. Maybe even a little too well. Now I need to remove the back seat, for a little bit, and cut the rear floor out. I have pictures but they are cell phone pics and I need my wife to babysit me and show me, again, how to get the pictures on the forums.

 VERY NICE!!! That is looking sweet there "World Renowned Author" Rob!!! Looks like you have it set up nicely so it doesn't have any binding issues and will twist nicely with those nice long arms!!
How long did your lowers end up being?? They look nice and long!!
Keep up the good work brother!

The tubing is cut at 44" and you would need to add the tubing inserts and the joint length. The upper tubing is cut at 34" (if I remember correct). It works okay. The sheet metal is in the way of the tires.

Wow, that is looking nice LT. You're gonna be kicking some butt in Moab.

We will see. I really don't know how I am going to get those huge shocks in place. I really think I bought too big of a shock. Thanks for the encouragement.

LT.

nice! it wont be long until you can enjoy it.

Again, I really don't see this thing getting done before March of 2010. I end up working a lot, sometimes up to 90 hours a week. With that kind of a schedule I just don't get the chance to work on it much. I also am trying to make this up as I go along. I really don't know what I am doing.

You know, I would be more than happy to take them off you hands for you and put them on my truck!! I know I could get them to fit under the wheelwells of my rig!! ;)
If all else fails I could head down that way and work on the Beater for you so we could get it done before Moab! If it comes down to crunch time I know we could get it done!

I don't think you need them on your rig. It already flexes way more than any other leaf sprung rig should. I think I can make them fit. It actually looks like they are not going to stick into the seat area all that much. I am only going to have six inches of compression, the rest will be droop. Everything is fully welded now so there is no going back now.

I just measured the rear shock hoops and they are only going to be about 10" tall or so. They will just stick up in the rear over the floor by about 8" or there abouts. The front shock hoops will be quite a bit taller but, I don't think they are going to stick out of the hood, close but not quite. The shocks are only going to have about 6" of shaft exposed while at ride height. This makes the shocks about 30 1/4" tall. On the rear I have shock towers on the axle that stand above the axle about 2" or so. The front axle mounts are only about 3/4" to 1" above the axle. The fronts are smaller than the rears because there just is not a lot of realestate on the axle tubes. I won't get a chance to do anything this weekend, maybe next weekend.

I still don't know where I want to mount the Warn 16.5 ti winch. I already have a 9.5 ti and I am unsure of where I want each mounted. One one hand most extractions are easier going backwards. So it would make sense to mount the 9.5 on the rear. However, the 9.5 is more than enough to pull my rig out forwards and the weight of the 16.5 would be better placed on the rear to help balance out the front to rear weight difference. What do y'all think?
