mass airflow sensor?

I want to put newer style MAS on my 22re I have seen the newer tacomas have just a small inline style, Anybody know if this will work for my application? Or know something that will, the factory one is just HUGE and I would like to clean up under the hood a little.

It's been a while but if I remember right the old one was cutting out when I get too vertical because it's got that flap to make it work.

I have a supra one in mine. There is only one year that works due to electronics.

I have heard of guys swapping the electronics out of their stock 22re afm (mas) and using other housings. I can't comment on that.

The stock and supra one have worked fine for me at all angles...

FWIW my 4runner passes emmisions fine with this mod.

It sounds like yours is the spring loaded vane style. They typically put out a 0-5volt signal.
The new toyota style is a hot wire MAF sensor, they usually put out a frequency, so they're not interchangable. You'd need to fine tune the MAF tables in the tuning using a wideband o2 sensor if you ever wanted it to run right anyway.

I think I heard that a 5mge throttle body fits a 22re and is supposed to give it a bit more power... I would personally scap the whole 22re and put the supra motor in...

The 5m supra throttle body is what I have. It gives makes throttle response much quicker. I don't think there is anything that gives a 22re a huge power increase--that's engine swap territory.

Nice find panos.

Nice yeah, but seems pricey ! I don't think it would be worth it unless you had to run the 22re like if you were competing in F toy or juat really liked your 22re I guess

Haha , "just" liked your 22re ;) but the supra afm is still a flap style and larger, not going to " clean anything up" I know if you get one from a 82 it bolts right in or I should say plugs right in, but if you are talking about the Tb, I think with those both used in conjunction and a header with a good exhaust , what comes in must go out ha;you could achive a little extra power. But probably most noticeable would be throttle response.

Its all so complicated, I don't really need anymore power I was just looking to clean it up but yeah, that supra one wont help me too much with that. thanks for sharing your knowlege with me on this, I guess I'll just keep mine, I do run a header on that little hamster wheel though. Foreign hampsters need a good exhaust system.

The problem with the 22re or any other toyota flap style MAFS is that the door has a small arm that travels along a circuit board on top of the unit. They fail most commonly because of the contact of teh arm to the board in one area to much. So weither it's a supra or another 22re one you still run the risk of getting another old one that could wear out soon. I would go to www.rockauto.com and buy a new one for 200 bucks and have the peace of mind that it won't fail for a long time

I wouldn't be too scared of a used part. I got mine from www.car-part.com. It's been working for, what 3.5 years. I have never heard of anybody have trouble with a failed AFM. I'm sure they fail, but not what I would consider a weak spot for a 22re.

I do notice guys always recommend they be checked when people post up with engine troubles, but they always seem to check out.

I paid $50, and there were only a few available since the celica guys like to use them too. I could not find one locally.

$200 is a lot to spend on 22re performance for me. And I find often that the low end aftermarket stuff doesn't hold up as well as 20 yr old original parts.
