Mismatched Gears

Blew the rear end out of my Dodge truck. Sticker says it has 3.54, but most junkyard axles have 3.55 and 4:10

Do I have to have a 3.54 gear ratio? If so, Would I have to change the front end

3.55 and 3.54 are virtually the same axle

The difference is about .3% or a 35.5" tire and 35.4" tire...

Dont worry about it.

You can have a 1% variance between the front and rear gears without having issues. 2% if it's just a trail rig that really only sees dirt. This is from a recent article in JP or Peterson's or something...

That said, 3.55's are fine.

no problems with 3.55's or 3.50's

A lot of old Fords came from the factory with a 4.09 and 4.10 combination. You will not notice the difference from 3.54 and 3.55.

I ran into that with my wife's Tracker, it has 5.625 gears and they get called 5.62 and 5.63.
