I received this message from Lone Peak 4 wheelers. I thought others here might be interested in attending and voicing the concern noted below. The text in red is the part that concerns me.

All,
While we're all worked up about Helldorado and Strike Ravine....
A reminder about the Moab RMP Scoping meeting this Thursday night in
Salt Lake City at the Red Butte Garden, 300 Wakara Way. It begins at
6:00 pm.
The Moab and Monticello Field Offices of the Bureau of Land Management
have been holding open houses in order to gather public input on the
issues, goals and opportunities for their revision of the Moab and
Monticello Resource Management Plans.
BLM has included some disturbing ideas in the pre-plan documents.
Check out the pre-plan materials on Moab BLM Planning website:
http://moabrmp.com/issues.html
Here is one that will frighten you: It's under "Recreation"
"Incorporating into the plan Special Recreation Permit (SRP) policies
and regulations that require consistent application within the
planning area and coordination with neighboring BLM offices. Establish
limits of use or limits of acceptable change that will protect
resource values while satisfying the public’s demand for these uses."
This means BLM is planning incorporate the SRP regs that require any
organized group, no matter how small, to apply for a Special
Recreation Permit just to have a day of trail runs.
Hey EZ, remember how much trouble it was to hold the Utah
Association's run at Little Sahara?
This is potentially a very bad thing. Clubs like the Rock Hoppers,
Lone Peak and RR 4 Wheelers are a RESOURCE to the BLM. They provide
much needed volunteer labor and leverage for OHV grant monies. They
provide an excellent outreach to teach a good backcountry recreation
ethic to OHV users. The last thing BLM should do is punish these
groups by requiring permits, fees, insurance etc.
OHV groups need to tell the BLM to make their plan friendly to
organized groups, and not so restrictive that it drives them
underground.
For more information and to easily get on the BLM's contact list go to:
