New wheels

Ok, not very techy... Gimme some slack, I'm trying.

Got some new wheels yesterday from Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters. They are 15x7 from a 96 Tacoma and were rattle-canned black. They need a bit of touching-up, but overall, I like them.

Not having them powder coated.......Doh!

Do you remember putting a piece of paper on a friend of mine's maroon 80 under the windshield wipers? I think it was in the P.G. macey's parking lot. You wrote "nice rear bumper" and wrote your Ih8mud I.D.?? I built it, but I never got pics. Anyway...just wondering.

Haha yeah that was me, and I want one like it. No $$ though...

I bought the wheels from Kurt for $80 already painted.

Then I paid another $85 to mount and balance them. I forgot to check the type of lugnuts....shank. My stock wheels use acorn. That was a $24 mistake. If I had shank lugnuts I would have only paid ~$58.

Oh well. Live and learn. I dig the look.

No kidding. I gotta touch them up a little, though, you can see where the old weights were.

You paid $85 to have some tires mounted and balance? dude, you got screwed.

Yep.

mounted and balanced at $12/tire = $48
needed new valve stems. $2/pop = $8
24 shank-style lug nuts, $1/nut = $24

Add that up, plus tax, and you get about $85.

This was at Big-O in AF.

I might have to hit you up later, then... I'm gonna try to find some meaty 35's or 38's for my stock rims, something I can drag to the trails in a trailer

Update

Got the wheels repainted. Roughed up the old paint, masked the tire with newspaper, and shot the wheel with semi-gloss black Rustoleum.

You can see what they used to look like... Let me put it this way- see the weights on the outside in the first few pics? Those aren't weights. That's where the weights WERE when the wheels were first painted.

They look much better now. :greg:

Total: ~$5.00 for paint and sandpaper, plus a few hours of my time.

I'll get a full side-shot tomorrow, it's dark now. Still waiting on the last wheel to dry...

I need to do something about those rear drums... They're ugly now haha

Looks a lot better man, just go to autozone and buy some caliper paint for those drums, I think they have black, red, or blue.
