Power Steering Noise

Well when doing a trail (rattle snake) this afternoon, my powersteering started making some serious noise and basically lost power off and on. It seems to only have problems (make the noise and lose power) in 4 low. It will make the noise with moderate turning and progressively get worse as I turn it farther. It isn't leaking fluid and the fluid level was great. Does it sound like I need a new pump? It is a 00 XJ with the stock steering pump, rusty's steering conversion and brace.

Yeah, have you checked the belt or fluid level yet? Could be a simple fix, or your pump may be going into self destruct mode.

FYI, a worn out pump can often send metal shavings through the system, which can affect the life of the seals in your box as well as the replacement pump.

Yeah I think the pump is going. It started doing it in two wheel drive also. I am going to replace it tomorrow. Thanks for the information.
