quick photoshop help?

Is there anyone out there who knows photoshop well enough to take the background out of his pic? I need it in a file that I can copy onto a business card and have the white background not show up over a "bleed to edge" picture. Even if you could just get the sun rays alone, that would be great. I know it can be done but I don't know the right buttons to press
