when i did mine i had to loosen the carrier bearing adjusters (big round things with holes in them on either side) all the way and then just keep prying it will pop out just takes some finese. sorry i don't know what the hell those things are called. it has to come out kinda angled to get of the pinion. hope this helps

MArk the bearing adjusters so you can put them back exactly where they were. Remove the little clip that keeps them in place. A small screwdriver or punch will easily back off the adjusters.

I very effectively used a small punch. don't forget to mark the adjusting rings and count how many times you turned them so you can put them back in the same location.

Why are you removing the carrier? Putting the adjusters in the same place might not be a good idea if you are installing new gears, bearings or a new carrier. A good place to start but use a dial indicator and set backlash and preload to spec.
