Samurai Diff

I bought a spartan locker and had it installed but the guy who installed it left in the shims. I think what the guys at lowranger were talking about were the carrier shims. How hard is it to get the shims out?
I have to pop the axels, drop the driveline and pull the diff I know that much from there I am pretty ignorant. Any help would be great!
