You only have to pay if you are inside the lake area (inside the paved road that circles the lake) the dunes and all the trails are in a "no pay" area. You just need a flag.

Where are these rock crawling areas? We were down there last Friday. We came around back and got on the dunes for a minute, but didn't have flags, and they were giving tickets, so we turned around. We were on the dunes at the south end. Where are the rock crawling areas from where we were?

Thanks

We started from the private airport area south of hurricane. We stayed south/left at any forks. (I was told the rights went over to the dunes) We went over along the bench where you could look down in the valley where the Honeymoon trail is. We stayed along that bench and headed north towards the dunes - I assume we were the furthest west you could be to get on the dunes. (entered them at the southwest corner) We rode accross them a few hundred yards - staying close the slickrock to the west. Then we turned around and went back on the same road we went in on.

There are lots of trails up there you just have to know how to get to them them. You could drive right buy them and never now you missed them. Once you find them there is AWSOME stuff down there. If you enter on washington dam rode and then take a trial up and then stay west you will find some of the trails.

Where you entered from, it is straight across the entire dunes to get to the trails, You just drive across the highest point out on the dunes and keep going west. The easiest way to to find them is from the washington dam road staging area.
