Well Wed afternoon i get a call from a friend that he had his truck stuck in a mud hole down in sandy beach which is just the south end of utah lake for those who dont know the area it a sandy beach :greg: Area with little spur roads all over kinda a cool place to go kick back and have fun. Well There are alot of pictures here but needless to say it to 23.5 hours to get him out. I got out there about 5ish with my one ton ford crew thinking it wont be bad. I was proved wrong. Its a clay/sand mix and kinda wet so i could get no traction whats so ever. He started digging and we just could not even move him. I tried from the front so I crawled under his truck and dug around to get him hooked up. BTW it was 24degrees and wind whipping off the lake. I had to crawl in the water and mud to hook him up with no luck. We had a Utah county sheriff come by and told us he got stuck in the same hole with his patrol truck. After seeing that i was not going to be able to pull him out I asked the officer if it would be ok to trailer my jeep down and park next to him off load my jeep and use my winch to pull him out. He told me it would be no problem since its not reg or insured. He said just keep it off pavement. Not a problem well anchored the jeep to my truck and started to winch him but pulled the truck and the jeep to to hole and started to pull thru my frame on the jeep so stopped and put the jeep back on the trailer and we started to dig. We had two more county sheriffs come by and just laughed and said all was fine and to call dispatch if we needed anything and that they would check in on us through out the night and even bring us coffee. Sweet I love Utah county sheriffs. Anyhow long night all night actually with no luck. Thurs morning another Sheriff came by and got out and wanted to impound my trailer and jeep for the jeep not being reg or insured and it was obviously out there to play he said. I argued with the officer about it and how it was on the trailer and he just told me toget it out of here and (I) am lucky his is in a good mood. Then he turned and stated to my buddy that if this truck is not out in an hour he will have it impounded also. So i asked the dumb question "how much is the impound fee?" He stated about $150. Thats 75 dollars cheaper than the tow truck company so he caught on to our plan and just up and left lol Well after he left some more came while we were digging out. We ended up getting two dodge 2500 4x4 and two ford f350 crews all piggy backed together and with four good pulls we had him out. No damage but one hell of a night. I hope to see that cop stuck in a hole and drive around his sorry A#$. Anyhow here are the pics, we had fun but alot of work and you can bet your behind you wont catch me down there playing :D

the passenger front was 8 inches under mud and they are 33"s so it was a suction cup and would not release and the frame was sitting on the solid sand, the ruts was way deep and just got deeper

I grew up near sandy beach. It took me years to learn my lesson about that place. Bottomless pits of sand and utah lake water bring teh suck. :-\

Glad to see you're out thought.

Thats a good looking bko too.... good recovery... but I agree, it doesn't look to be stuck too bad... atleast it was retrievable.

It really is not stuck that bad. If you can still see the tires, it isn't that bad. Be thankful you were not involved in a couple of these recoveries. These are a few pictures from the last couple years from trips that come to mind... that had bad stucks. (Sorry to hijack, but I felt the need to provide illustrations to accentuate my point...lol)

This... is a bad stuck.

Just be on the lookout for catching a cold or the flu after being out in that wetness in 25 degree weather.

I was thinking dumb more than crazy. I mean half of those are driving out to the middle of a body of water. :p

I promise there is not shortage of idiots here... just like anywhere else I guess...

And I agree, you AK guys are a bit crazy! You don't try crossing a river with a mostly stock Wrangler.

Yeah... about that. The problem is those water channels change depth throughout the day because they are glacier fed. You can cross a creek at 9AM and it could be 1-2 ft deep. Come back 12 hours later and it can be twice that deep or more.

This guy had just been stationed here, was in the military, and was not familiar with the area.... and wound up in that boat... er, jeep... :greg:

Leave the useless critism with the Sheriffs Dept. My question is, did you have some fun? Life is too short not to.

Well since i was not there to have fun just there to get him out and the hours and hours of work um being with some good friends yes that was nice but the recovery not so much fun. As for the sheriffs department was just pointing out that they were being really cool except the one and alot of people already know what my wife does and is for a living so they would understand. We know how LEO's are supposed to be

My buddy got stuck down there a couple of years ago, we had his cousin's tow truck hooked up to his blazer. His wrecker has a 30,000 pound military winch on it. We had the wrecker hooked up with, both of my full size Chevy trucks, and a buddy's full size ford pickup chained to the wrecker as a anchor, and still couldn't get him out, it started pulling all four trucks towards my buddy's blazer and into the mud hole. We finally had to get him out using a high lift and a bunch of plywood to make a makeshift road to get him out. The suction form the mud and sand on that lake is crazy. That lake is notorious for that, but a lot of fun.

I have even done my wheeling in AK and had plenty of fun up there too. The glacier silt up there is murder on your bearings. But its it was way fun, so many places to wheel up there.
