Make RME Rockcrawling Again!
Admin
Well... I thought I quick trip up 21 Road would be an ideal place to try out the 38's I just mounted on the 4Runner. I bypassed most of the lower trail, wanting to get up by the Overhang and into the big rocks.

I ran into a small group with 2 vehicles, right where the canyon gets tight & the rocks get big. There was a Toyota Truggy, (used to be an Ext Cab pickup) on 37" MTR's and a rear locker. There was also a Toyota Landcruiser that was close to stock! A few inches of lift, 32" BFG Muds and opened diffs. I was amazed that they were that far up the trail!

They were taking lunch... after a few minutes of chatting, they let me pass them, then I pulled 'em over the difficult spot.

Here's some poser pics... I was doing some more tire-fit testing. Note the Dana 30 stub shaft laying on the ground.

More as we finished the trail. At the end there's a very optional wash with some really huge rocks, it was too tempting to pass up. -

In the end, I've decided that I should have gone with 38" SX's long ago... they work very well & the size increase of a few inches made a world of difference. I hit my diff so much less & hardly ever hit my rocksliders. I did get the 4Runner hopping a few times & got a little bound up. With some cautious driving, I made it thru without any problems. I do need to lower the air pressure from 12 Front/10 Rear, but the tires spun easier & prevented breakage. I'm very happy with the way it's working now. :D

sweet, looks like a great trail, we still need to get down there

Yeah you do! It's a great trail, something totally different than what you're used to. I love having this trail less than 10 minutes from my house. I left home just before noon and got back by 4pm. Not bad considering how long it is if you drive out the top, which I did.
