Smallest owl I've ever seen

I was up last Friday pushing through the bushes trying to scare out some elk for my son and spotted a small bird that had a weird shaped head. It was just a bit bigger than a sparrow in length but fatter. I used my binoculars at 8 feet to look at it and was surprised to see that it was an owl. I didn't have a camera to take a picture but looked it up on the web when I got home (a Northern Pygmy Owl). Anyone else ever see one of these tiny owls ?

Cool! Don't think I've ever seen one of those. I've seen a lot of burrowing owls, which are maybe just a hair bigger than that one though.

And this guy hung out in my garage for a couple weeks last year.

He's on the first shelf down from the top.

Had to look him up, had no idea what he was, but pretty sure he was a Saw-whet Owl.

At certain time of the year, these little guys like to land on gravel roads at night. They are slow to fly and many are killed by vehicles.
Next time you see little birds flying up as you cruise down the road, stop and check them out. Most likely pigmy owls.
