TOOELE -- A Tooele man died while working at the Stansbury Park Golf Course Friday morning when the lawn mower he was driving flipped into a pond.

Golfers found the man pinned beneath the mower in one of the ponds on the course at about 8:15 a.m. They quickly called 911.

Tooele County Sheriff Chief Deputy Duke North says the man apparently drove too close to the edge of the pond. The lawn mower flipped over, pinning him in the water.

The victim is 73-year-old G. Neil Magann.

North said Magann had been under water approximately 45 minutes when he was found. He had been a maintenance worker at the golf course for about eight years.

The riding lawn mower would have weighed close to 1,000 pounds, North said.

No one witnessed the accident and Magann was declared dead at the scene, though a medical helicopter did respond.

The official cause of death will be investigated by the state medical examiner. The accident is being investigated by officials with the Tooele County Sheriff's Office and Utah Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
