Toyota Toyot E-Locker - electric motor / actuator

I have a few elockers that have been lying around for awhile. I have two actuator motors that are in great working condition, I have cleaned up, and will be reassembling. The challenge will be to get the other two cleaned up and working. While I was doing this, I thought I'd take pictures, talk about some of the differences and things I have learned. Please add or correct any information. These actuators are for standard and high pinion 8" diffs. I have come across two different versions. Looking at the two of these side by side, you can see a few differences. My opinion would be that Toyota made some improvements. From the outside they look the same to me, other than I have noticed that the gear on the one I believe to be the "newer" version is a bit wider. Inside is where you can see more. The "older" version has the two springs, the center shaft (bigger diameter) with a plug / cap on the end, coarser gears, and the electric motor is slightly different. So the "newer" improved version has the wider gear, one spring on the shaft, and finer gears.

83,

I've got a non-working actuator on my '98 Taco. I've had it apart once and it appears most of the damage is due to corrosion on the motor. Can you provide some advice or help on rebuilding one of these? PM me if you like or email me at kd7kmp at hotmail.com.

Email sent, if you could get some pics up, that might help, thanks.

Are you looking to sell one of thoes high pinion actuators? I have just completed retrofiting a set of these yota e lockers in my old land rover and much to my dismay the front motor is bunk. I tried to rebuild it and its just not working for me, everything inside looks pretty clean, magnets are in place, brushes look fine but the surface area of the motor cover is so corroded that the cap doesn't sit flat and I think the armature is binding.

Any advice or a good price?

Thanks

Can someone confirm? When re-installing the actuator into the diff, is the correct set-up with the ACTUATOR and the DIFF in the LOCKED positions?

I have a couple extra E lockers I'll be looking to re-assemble and sell. It's been too long, well, and my memory is not so good.

Thanks

yes locker in locked position is correct, great info john i just finished rewiring and rebuilding a elocker in a sami they can be complicated if your not farmilar with them glad to see some info in them. Just so people know who are putting in a elocker, if you want to make your life easy and be 100% sure on your wiring, get a e locker wiring kit from inch worm gear, worth every penny

So dragging this back from 3 years ago...

I have been trying to get my elocker going and took it apart and everything looks like should, but my locker still doesn't work.
I tried testing it with this pinout
locker-pinout.png
I connect positive to #2 and negative to #3 (or reverse them) and it appears the thing doesn't move. Pins 2 and 3 are on the side by the blank. Tired with #2 to Positive on Battery and Negative off #3 to Tail light then to ground and I it doesn't light up.

Looks like I can pick up one online here --> http://www.japanesetruckdismantling.net/Toyota-Tacoma-E-Locker-4145035010-p/41450-35010.htm If I can't figure it out...

Anybody got any ideas?

That is correct, power #2 and #3 and it should rotate, alternate to reverse.

I could test it here for you, and I have brand new AISIN actuators in stock for the 8" and 9.5" varieties.
