I am not an expert on it but I would say make sure they will fit then take them off and have them painted. It seems like ti would be easier to paint while they are off. Again I am no expert.
Definately make sure they fit right before painting, or you may be painting them twice. Be sure to post pics of the project while you're doing it and when it's finished.
