I will take a look at this thing once he gets it out of the shop. I am interested in it already being lifted and rimmed and tired. We shall see.....

It's bad because

A) its aluminum and therefore less strong
B) almost zero aftermarket traction devices
C) It's aluminum
D) almost no after market gear sets
E) it's aluminum

You have it if you drive a 96 or newer v8 grand cherokee.

If you don't know what engine you have you can look at the axle and tell by the shape of the diff. :D if it's shaped like a d44 then it's an aluminum d44, if it's shaped like a 35c then it's a d35c. ;) Either way you have a turd back there.

pull it, recycle it, and go buy a real axle housing....:)

I bet you could get 50-75$ just for the recycle on that thing!!

unless it was bought in S. America or europe, the center section is aluminum.

Ford 8.8 swaps are the easiest. Find an explorer w/ rear discs and matching gears ratio (pretty common to find 3.73's and 4.11's) and all you have to do is weld on your brackets and you can use the fords brakes. You'll lose ABS, but ABS sucks so no biggie.
