what makes a 1 ton Rig?

Agree.... suspension, frame, engine/transmission/t-case, etc... on top of proper 1 ton axles. My GMC has a Dana 60 and 14 Bolt, but I'm not going to call it a 1 Ton. Still has a 1/2 ton frame, transmission & t-case and soft 1/2 ton suspension.

No matter what, a Dana 44 does not make a 1 ton axle... even with 8 lug.

This is perhaps the best explaination. Greg's GMC is a great example. My little hunting truck, Christine, is another. Even though my christine uses the same transmission and engine found in 1 tons, the frame, and my rear springs are not. Same goes for the beater. One ton axles does not a 1 ton make.
