What motor should go in XJ

I want to get some opinions on a motor swap. I have an 88 XJ with a fuel injected 4.0 auto, and a 86 with a 2.8 v6 manual. Should I put the 4.0 in the 86 or go bigger like 5.2 or chevy 350? The 86 is in alot better shape so I'd like to use it to build on.

I would personally stick with the 4.0. Great motor, should be the easiest to install. If you went to the 350 there would be alot more time and $ involved, although it would be cool. XJs seem to have tight engine compartments as well though.

Okay. I was thinking that would be best, but I heard you can't swap the 4.0 into a v6 XJ. I don't know why you couldn't though.

That's probably true in regards to using the 2.8 transmission. If you used an AW4 (stock, auto behind 4.0's) and had the correct t-case, it would go right in.

The older XJ's firewalls are a bit differently shaped, but if you are handy with a BFH, you can fit the 4.0 in there.
