Widening a trailer axle

I built a new trailer for my wife's SXS and stole the brand new axle from my old trailer. I got a motor home axle from my neighbor but it is 7 inches too narrow. I thought I could cut it and add e 7" section to it and then sleeve it with some bigger pipe. However the axle was solid 2 inch steel rather than hollow. So I can still weld in a section and gusset it but the little 6x10 trailer could live with a lighter solution. I have a bunch of 2x5/16 DOM tube and I could just replace the solid 2" stuff and not have a joint in the middle. It wouldn't have the camber they put in most trailer axles but this thing isn't going to be hauling huge loads.
Thoughts ?
PS I need some 6 lug rims and tires if someone has some they want to sell or trade for some 8 lug ones let me know.
