I use battery terminal ends that they sell at auto parts stores.
Cut the old one off, place the terminal end on and then you can solder or just squish in a vice. If you go the vice route squish it and then I take a nail or a punch and put a nice punch right in the middle so it doesnt slip out.
All in all its not really even a big deal. If you didnt want to replace it you dont have to. The only reason that its on there is to get your cable started on the wrapping. It doesnt hold the cable to the drum in a secure manner. The only thing that holds the cable to the drum is the cable itself. Thats why youre not supposed to go less than 7 wraps of cable (I think?) on the drum min.
